Beer T-Shirts – Tetley Pub Hunt ‘84

Beer T-Shirts

The changing ways of beer promotion

Not so long ago the breweries were happy to provide all manner of paraphernalia in order top spread their beers brands.

At opening time bars would covered in beer mats that steadily disappeared during the evening.  Some of these beer mats went into painstakingly assembled collections – most ended up on top of a blob of blu tak fixed to  studen’s walls.

The other great promotional material for beer was bar towels – again collected by a few and then more popularly stitched to jackets and shirts for an individual look.  Health & Safety issues have seen the demise of beer towels but you can still were your pint with pride.

Fiddlers Elbow T Shirt Design

Breweries are now opening online shops that sell branded caps, t-shirts and gifts.  A recent favourite beer to accompany my pasty (not least for the fantastic offers and promotions over the past month) HobGoblin offer a wide range of “the Goblin” logo Tee shirts from the Wychwood Brewery.

Coincidently Hobgoblin has attracted the pasty Muncher’s attention previously when the shelf edge price labels came under scrutiny on supermarket swindles

Beer Tees – Duff T-Shirts

Duff Beer t-shirtRather than hand over money to promote something that really I should be paid to wear my choice would have to be a T-Shirt sporting DUFF BEER.  These Duff t-shirts available from Beer Tees specialist www.wearyourbeer.com are available in the  for under $18 there’s a whole range of beer tee shirts and they ship to the UK (note airmail charges will apply) and would make fabulous christmas gifts for real men who like their beer.

Mmmmmmmmm—- Beer

Pardon me

During the summer of ‘84 Tetley (not the Tea people) ran a beer promotion during the summer holidays that I am proud to have taken part in – the Great Tetley Pub Hunt.

The Tetley Pub Hunt

Not so much of a hunt more a brewery influenced pub crawl – getting your card stamped by the bar each time you ordered a pint of Tetley Bitter. Gallon hats on I am a little ashamed to report the hunt took place over two nights – we were dole scrounging stoodents – skint. The final pint down and the card was fully stamped and we had our passport to a free beer t-shirt. I still have the Tee Shirt today much to the dismay of my mates. I model it here and either the shirt has shrunk in the hundreds of washes or I’ve put on a pound or two.

I love retro shirts, add a beer shirt into the mix and that’s great. But a retro and beer shirt? Now you have yourself a winner. This is awesome!

Great retro shirts. I’ve got a few classic Coors light tshirts myself, back from the mid 70s. Those tshirts look great as well.

Simple logo T-shirts are not that popular anymore, but some people still like them. I especially enjoy seeing people who wear funny t-shirts with certain quotes. The ones related to bear are usually the funniest and I always try to read the inscription, even if the person is moving and makes it difficult for me.

I really enjoyed your article, and the fun little history of beer advertisements. Funny thing, at one of the fraternity houses at my school, they have a taco bell mat at their door, consequently due to lack of beer mats. Funny to think though, why was is so hard to think of a beer t-shirt?

I think it would be a nice touch on these beer t-shirts to add a space for you to write your address on, beneath the words “if found incapacitated, please return to:”

Incidentally, your Tetly Pub Hunt reminds me of a three-legged relay race that used to be held near my home, where you and a partner would have to run from point to point drinking a pint at each stop. Does that still happen?

A real-world beer shirt should have that an adjusted size for the belly since a lot of drinkers have those extra love handles to consider. peace, man!

Oh man, I really like these t-shirts. Have to say that when I first tried fiddlers elbow I loved it and have been hooked to it ever since. Though I do think I’m loving it a little too much seen as I guess there might not be one of those shirts to fit over my belly, lol.

Nice shirts! Many beer lovers out there will surely be interested to have a beer shirt for their collection. It’s quite funny to think that now, breweries are involving themselves in different marketing strategies that would be useful for their products.
