Time to take a sanity check on the state of pasties in Devon.  With the increase in petrol stations being converted to “fuel and fill pit stops” it has come to our attention that the most readily available pasties are mass produced poor imitations of the proper job.

ginsters pasty

The recruitment of a proper pasty muncher was required and checking out this blog post about shopping online made us think about sending someone deep undercover to expose the real state of Devon pasties.

We sent our undercover mystery shopper (in the guise of a go ahead business woman) to check out what was hot on the pasty front and are sad to report that ready to go pasties and pies leave a lot to be desired.

You might have thought that being selected to taste pasties would rank highly as a great job – and as such worthy of inclusion on the list of top jobs in a recession however the suffering that our researcher undertook must not be overlooked.

Ginsters and Peters Pies dominate the filling station “food on the move” shelves and are at best poor and were condemned as being far from “proper jobs”.

To make matters worse Ginsters are from Cornwall which begs the question why in these economic doldrums are local petrol stations not stocking local food?

After only three days of work our mystery shopper decided that she’d had enough of crusts and fillings and left to look for other jobs that would be a better fit for her talents and interests.

The last we heard she had landed a fantastic job with an agency that supplies models of high street fashion shops and had recently returned from a swimwear shoot in Florida where coincidentally she discovered that “pasties” in the US has a very different meaning to the humble meat and vegetable pasty in these parts.

More top jobs – modeling lingerie.

Some top jobs just come out of the blue and her next assignment is hoped to model underwear for leading high street lingerie shops.  Most girls love sophisticated lingerie claiming that it makes them feel empowered – smart and business like but confident in the knowledge that if they get knocked down by a bus they’ll look amazing for the doctors in A&E.

We wish you well in your future work and hope that you never forget the taste of the microwaved Ginsters on the A30 between Okehampton and Launceston.

Munch on!
