Spring Flowers Cherry Tree Survey
Finally a rise in temperature, a spot of sun and bingo its Springtime. Various observations up and down England have noted the sheer spectacle of flowering shrubs and trees.
Spring Flowers – Late but well worth the wait
Not only cherries, but all flowering trees are resplendant right now. The magnolias in particular have had their best year ever, due to the lateness delaying the flowering until after the frosts and winds joining the carpet of spring flowers making it a truly glorious Spring.
Cherry Trees
It is so uplifting walking past a cherry tree and staring up into the blooms – don’t forget to log cherry trees in your area on the Natural History Museum website which includes this video to help you distinguish cherry trees from other flowering trees buy explaining the type of flowers found on cherry trees.
Ornamental Flowering Cherry
The ornamental flowering cherry is the perfect tree for modern Britain, reflecting the nation as it now is:
A lot of glitzy show then nothing productive.
Surely it would be far better if gardeners planted something that actually bore fruit – after all fruit tress offer generous displays of blossom too.
And better if those trees in public gardens were replaced with something edible – it might just encourage children to believe that fruit is not something exotic and not for them.
Heavens, we might even find people munching an apple as they walked about a park, as opposed to a burger.
With the abundance of fresh spring flowers in local gardens there should be less need for people to buy flowers – although it is good to see some retailers focussing primarily on seasonal flowers – tulips and daffs for example – following the “flower crisis” which highlighted the ridiculous volume of flowers flown into the country
Incidentally, the flowering cherry Kanzan has to have the most amazing colour scheme ever, with its bronze early leaves and pink flowers. Revolting!

OK, do I tell the truth and let you know I read the part about munching on an apple rather than a burger but read “booger”? And really thought you wrote that? Sorry!
I would LOVE to see fruit trees in public places. Especially figs, apples… what a great idea!!
