Great West Run – Twice Around the Block

Great West Run Exeter

Precisely a week after the London Marathon the South West hosts its very own major fundraising event – the Great West Run. pasty runner

The London Marathon takes in many London sightseeing hotspots along its route – after a dubious but understandable start in  south east London the route quickly follows the same well trodden route set out when it was first run by 6500 runners in 1981.

Key outside broadcast locations include the Cutty Sark, Docklands, Tower Bridge, St Pauls Cathedral,  Houses of Parliament, down the Mall, past Buckingham Palace finishing in St James Park – a great route to run and specate whilst encouraging charity donations to support organisations in their work.

Great West Run Route

Following the lead of the London Marathon the Great West Run route takes in all the major attractions Exeter has to offer.  In fact so pleased are the eveent’s organisers that the run comprises of two laps of the same route so you get another chance to enjoy Exeter finest attractions – behind the bus station, along Pinhoe Road – no stopping at Martin’s Pie shop, under the railway up and acrross the bad neighbourhood of Beacon Heath past a superstore then back to central Exeter to do it all over again.

What a trip – pulling in all the must see sights of Exeter – The city that knows its a town!

All the best to those runners in 2009 great west run – here’s hoping for London Marathon 2010 places and a chance to do a decent charity run.

That doesn’t sound like the best possible scenery for a marathon run.

This sounds like a great charity event. Might not be as grand as the London Marathon but hey you get to see the city of Exeter twice!

I would have never really thought about it, but a marathon is a great way to catch all of the sights around town from a more personal experience. I’ll have to start training for one soon…

I am looking to join an evening Mandarin class somewhere in the West End, Leicester Sq, Covent Garden or Soho, and was wondering if anyone has a attended a good beginners class. I have learnt Mandarin before but am still a beginner in reading.

Aside from garnering a tough muscle because of the marathon, the noble cause makes it more fun and enjoyable.
