Chrissie Holland is not a mystery shopper. All mystery shopping companies insist that you use non-inflammatory language and that you do not insult or defame those with whom you are dealing.

The use of "absolute moron managers" in a report would cause it to be rejected and if the shopper persisted with that praseology he/she would be rejected and would not get any more offers of assignments.

Bit concerned to hear that people have lost their jobs as a direct result of Chrissie Holland's work. The Mystery Shopping Provider's Association has clear guidelines about mystery shopping and state that a staff member cannot be fired as a direct result of a mystery shopping excercise.
The mystery shopping agency that Chrissie works for need to get their house in order before they find themselves at the centre of a very expensive legal dispute. (it has happened before when the staff member took their employer to tribunal and the employer sued the mystery shopping agency for not advising them of the guidelines.) My advice to Chrissie would be to not get involved with a mystery shopping agency that refuses to work wothinn the MSPA guidelines.
Just my opinion.

I am a very professional and experienced mystery shopper. I love my job because I have extensive experience dealing with the public and I'm passionate about how they should be treated in on the high street. I always get results, and have, sadly, at times been responsible for certain crap people losing their jobs. I never have to use a predictable script or fill in a mountain of forms. I simply use my writing and observational skills to type up a report and email it to the head office of the particular company. There is great job satisfaction in what I do because I do it for free! Yes, I am a free mystery shopper. My mission is to bring to the attention of heads of companies the fact that their recruitment/human resources departments/managers are not as good as they think they are, and that they have some absolute moron managers and staff working in their establishments. The job is not full time of course. My objective is to make shopping more pleasant, albeit in a small way, for myself and many other people I know. After my report is received I am informed that they will be taking action, and sometimes have seized till rolls and CCTV footage. Sometimes they send in area managers to do spot checks. Just in case you're interested - the best retail experience in my book is Boots UK.

To all those looking to earn some decent money from mystery shopping (£25 - £50 per assignment), check out The Insider's Guide To Mystery Shopping by John Smith. It's available from Amazon.co.uk
Alternatively you can just carry on with the crap mystery shopping jobs and moaning about it on forums and blogs.

I paid my £39.95 on 13th October 2010, heard nothing since. No assignments at all and - as per THEIR terms and statements, have this morning requested my money back. I await their response with interest. I assure you that if I do not get any response then I will be in touch with the likes of BBC Watchdog.

I dont know why people sign up for this crap work - just think about the people who are on the receiving end of the video - who are critised and performance managed, ususally after slogging their guts out for a crap company. Do you do it because ou are incapable of getting a proper job? Try retail - then you'll know the definition of a crap job!

It really does depend on the type of mystery shopping you opt for. Some may well be considered as 'crap jobs' however there are plenty out there which will pay you extremely well for your time, and the time you do spend working is not long at all!

My advice would be you should never pay to join any agency or browse any website - as far as I am aware it is against the law for agencies to charge to find you work anyway (I'm sure some websites will use loopholes to get around this, such as selling an eBook). Be careful when browsing and have fun shopping!

UK Mystery Shopper Employment Agency with the web address www uk mystery shopper jobs dot com is the most untrustworthy agency that I have ever come across. I joined their SEP membership and decided to cancel the membership after using it for 60 days since I was not getting job assigments and the few that I had were just so useless with their offers and what has to go into it. They are now refusing to refund the membership fee that they promised by intentionally not responding to my first request for cancellation and had to send another request. They're now telling me that they can't refund the fee since it's past the 60 days, though I sent the first request on the 60th day. Just imagine the number of people that they would do this to, which means you will lose for them to gain and the funny thing is, if you check their site at any time, they claim to hire only 23 more shoppers. I just hope my experience would be of an advise to a lot of people out there and I think it's not worth paying any money to join any mystery shopping agency because they only end up making money from people like me for what they never suffered for.

From your experience it sounds like you unfortunately received one of the 'less exciting' mystery shopping jobs. If you haven't already then I would definitely recommend trying some different agencies as they do tend to vary so much.

You will often find that ones based on services as opposed to products will be both less time consuming and better paid - hope this helps!

I agree with the publisher. I had some free time and applied at a few mystery shopping jobs. Each paying 10 dollars. I go and complete the store interviews, and og home and type in the information….They expect a novel for 100 questions….So you fil out the questions. Then a day later, they emailing me wanting even MORE information. I send the more information. Then they email me yet AGAIN wanting more information. So I send them more information, then they email and tell me the CANCELED THE JOB saying I missed a question! I was so livid at this point, I emailed them back with a few choice words and where they can stick their 10 dollars. Needless to say Mystery shopping surely is CRAP.

THANKS SOOOOO MUCH.

MY EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN THE SAME WITH A PARTICULAR COMPANY AND I HAVE WRITTEN THEM TO QUIT. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BEING THAT I GOT PAID.

THE CALL THE QUESTIONS QUERIES AND SEEM TO TRUST THE LOCATION STAFF WHO ARE NOT PLEASED ABOUT A NEGATIVE REPORT AND CONFRONT YOU WITH OBJECTIONS RAISED. THAT BEING THE CASE, I THINK STAFF OF SUCH MYSTERY SHOPPING COMPANIES SHOULD NOT USE MYSTERY SHOPPERS BUT CARRY OUT THE VISITS THEMSELVES.

(: (:(: Many thanks.

"THE MOUNTAIN OF BURGER"

Has anyone ever visited one of those restaurants where they serve a "tall" burger with a very long kebab stick stuck through to hold the bits together?

I recently did and discovered that it was nothing but a MacDonalds or Burger King burger presented in a DECEITFUL GIANT FORM AT A COST OF ABOUT £9.00!!!!!!!

In fact MacDonalds and Burger King burgers are more filling and taste better.

My warning/advice is: BEWARE OF THE MOUNTAIN OF BURGER!!!!!!!
