I had the idea to use something like a collander or pudding bowl instead of a basket. That way I even to box can be part of the present. Th other thing I am doing is to make this type of pressie into a filled stocking which I think makes it more festive and adds a bit of childhood joy to a present for the grown ups

Hampers are great at Christmas... If you make them yourself you don't have those things that you normally get in shop-bought hampers that you never end up eating (or drinking). I have so much candied ginger, pickled walnuts, port and stilton still untouched and sitting on the shelf! Great idea to make a personal hamper rather than buying a pre made one. It will be a lot better because it will be made to suit the person getting it. It is always better to make a gift to suit someone because they will enjoy it more.

Great write up and some really good ideas. I don’t think you can beat a really good gift hamper (home made or shop purchased) for an extra special Birthday or Christmas gift. If you make one yourself it really does show a lot of thought has been put into the gift and therefore the receiver feels a little bit more special … my thoughts anyway!

This is a great post. I have used hampers (the smaller type you can find at Walmart or Target) to create gifts for family, including my all time favorite: citrus fruit baskets.
