I’ve had occasion to dabble in social networking sites before but a recent visit to a top 10 things about stuff sites featured alongside top changes 2009 (only 8 so far – what is the world coming to) was top people to follow on twitter.

Twitter it seems is a melange of blogging, facebook and text messaging whereby those full of their own self importance can give regular updates about their amazing lives for all to share. Twitting is refered to as microblogging – now theres a fluffy way of saying lazy word shy bluggers. Who’d have thought anyone would be able to express themselves in 14o character bursts. More to the point who would subscribe to these snippets of drivel?

Amongst the top twitters to follow are Stephen Fry and Jonathon Ross – two unlikely bedfellows. Stephen Fry is undoubtabley one of Britains finest gentlemen – urbane, educated, witty and charming. Tossy however is merely a potty mouthed sycophantic oik who used to be entertaining but developed a speech impediment due to build up of boot polish on his tongue. Harsh perhaps but I offer further insight into the , smug and crass tv personality courtesy of the Daily Telegraph who report that:

Jonathon Ross is a sleazy, self-indulgent, foul-mouthed, middle-aged doppelgänger of a man who had the potential to be one of our most brilliant broadcasters and worth every penny of £18 million. Now it is as if he feels he must compete with the worst excesses of Julian Clary and Graham Norton; he leaves viewers feeling grubby at best, and sickened at worst.

By following a twit you get to read each and every mundane activity the twitterer thinks is noteworthy this morning I noticed that Wossy signed off -

I am going to take a nap. Twitter exhaustion. about 9 hours ago from TwitterFon

If only he opted for retirement – from being an exhausting twat.

Benefits of Twitter

I can understand the interest in some of these diaries – hopefully it will see the end to half baked nobodies publishing autobiographies within a year of achieving some sort of dubious celebrity status.

Call to action on climate change

I’m no stranger to social networking – you can find pasty muncher on Linkedin, and fundraising pages (remember the sponsored fart for the heart?) – see the current climate change page which has yet to see any charity donation be made. Perhaps this is the key to Twitter – with a good following and a smart fundraising idea it could be a lucrative source of getting sponsorship and donations.

Why ask for charity donations?

Following the previous post welcoming global warming I saw this climate change video and did a tad more reasearch which revealed that sceptisism, consiracy theory and frivolity are all very well but climate change is really happening and its happening now.

Will you see Pasty Muncher on Twitter?

Well its tempting to play with scocial media sites – enormous fun having a profile and many friends on facebook but sadly http://twitter.com/pastymuncher is already taken – and following Stephen Fry – should I compromise..?

Maybe there will be a better version of Twitter developed soon – Muncher

No Jobs – Get this Book

Found a sun faded copy of the book “NICE WORK if you can get it” by Guy Dauncey which judging by the sticker on the bottom left corner and stamp [Careers Office LIBRARY Reference Only > Jobs] on the inside cover, I acquired sometime after its publish date of 1983.

How to be positive about unemployment

The book – ISBN 0 86082 357 1 – was heralded as the non-working man’s Bible that preached how to be positive about unemployment and was dedicated to the individuals and groups all over the country who were refusing to accept unemployment passively.

Recession Proof Jobs

Whilst browsing a variety of bizzare “list” sites we came across this list of jobs that will boom during recession. Imagine our delight when we realised it was a starting point for a post about unpopular jobs and grim working evironments.

A while back a post on the subject of working as a mystery shopper deemed to it to be a crap job and now we have the dubious pleasure in bringing you a comprehensivc list of jobs that may also be wave the famous Pasty Muncher tag of “crap”.

The list predicts growth of jobs in splendid UK instiutions such as prisons, job centres and schools highlighting the growing need to retrain, redeploy the work force and bang up the unemployed – prisoners are not counted as “out of work”

Little wonder up there with the worst of the worst are recruitment agents – another dreadful profession job that benefits from being recession proof – even thought there are less jobs – the annoying gob-shites still talk up each and every opportunity no matter how dismal and demeaning – and increasingly enjoy repeat commissions as the trend for temporary staff and short contract work during economic slowdowns.

Top Job – Plastic Surgeon

Apparantly the prospect of losing a job or failing to find new work can lead to desperate measures with some people becoming convinced that by changing their appearance they can position themselves better in the job market.

Rhino Pasty anyone?

Pam Ayres – Not Appearing in Exeter

Mother’s Day, Sunday 2nd March, Pam Ayres is to perform a show that will be broadcast via satellite live to 16 cinemas in the Picturehouses chain of cinemas.

Unlike the Wurzels who gladly included Exeter in their 2007 World Tour Pam has turned her back on live shows in Exeter and the South West.

Pam is however more hip to the beat than her fan base expect spitting lines such as

The thing about Pam you need to understand – I’m hot like the Ginsters fresh out the pan.

Ask me no questions – I’ll tell you no lies – Im tasty like the Pasty or Meat and @tater pie

Pam’s last tour of comprised 16 shows coast-to-coast in Australia, which included a full house in the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall, as well as fully sold out performances at the Edinburgh Assembly Rooms for the Festival Fringe.

The show at WIMBORNE – Tivoli Theatre will be broadcast live and direct ny satelite to the following Picturehouses at 3pm:

As yet I have yet to discover a link that I can catch a live webcast or even a podcast of this special event via broadband internet which would be helpful for those unable to afford or find it difficult to attend.

“Pam Ayres is a proper poet, whose wistful, funny, and perceptive verse captures both the joy and unfairness of life.”
Sunday Times

Warm and witty, direct and droll, the sharply funny Pam Ayres has been amusing and entertaining her many fans for years…

Links form the chain that holds the web together.

If someone goes to the trouble of including a link – within an article, a blog post, forum message or reply comment I expect it’s because they felt someone reading the piece might be interested. Maybe there’s an element of promotion to the link but that figures – adding a relevant link IS a vote of confidence. An irrelevant anchor text rich link will be ignored by most folk with half an ounze of gumption.

Why then is the insistance of rel=no follow become default on many “of the shelf” blogs?

To reduce spam – How so that be? The no follow relationship is invisible to viewers so they’re none the wiser as to if the link will be of value or not.

So the Pasty Muncher is please to announce that it welcomes comments from far and wide and they can be assured a dofollow link should they be included.

I first tried http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/nofollow-free but it requires manual editing to remove the no follow – poor show.

Instead Rob – he of Brightscape tipped me off with sem-dofollow which adequately removes nofollow from wordpress blog comments. Simple and effective.

What incredible times we live in. During a spare half hour I was goaded into finding pasties on t’internet. Blimey the humble savory snack (some say meal) is now global – and can be ordered online for delivery anywhere in the world.

Ever thrifty I checked the prices of available pasties online on Savebuckets – UK’s latest price comparison shopping site but was disappointed to find they were only able to offer the Cornish Pasty from Wiltshire Farm Foods at £1 hmm not much comaprison there – hobsons choice I’d say.

Since I’d taken the trouble to visit Save Buckets I wondered what else can I check up on??

As a keen gardener with other green fingered chums imagine my delight to come across an entire category dedicated to alan titchmarsh gifts!

What next? Well my broadband internet contract is up for renewal so lets search for a better deal. I’ve always been nervous that cheap packages from Tiscali and the like are a flase economy and thought it prudent to stay with bigger broadband providers such as BT. My internet search for “cheap broadband” actually displayed the BT Total Broadband packages which include their wireless wi fi broadband ”home hub” and for the moment a free digital tv recorder.

The best of both worlds – a trusted UK Broadband provider (BT) Free gifts and a choice of “Options” to suit my needs and budget.

Finally I couldn’t resist, the child in me searched for “wee” pis-smelling of nintendo’s Wii – hilarious.
