Confortel Seville - 3 Star Hotel? Three cats arses more like!
Beware the Confortel Seville - Hotel Puerta de Triana Sevilla
Ordinarily I prefer to adopt the stance that if you have nothing good to say about something then its better to say nothing at all. However the Confortel Hotel Seville forces an exception to this.
Being fortunate enough to have the opportunity of a short, much needed, mid-winter break the bargins available for hotels in Spain became irresistable. Four star hotels in major spanish cities and resorts up for grabs at 49 euros for the room - none of this stupid English Per Person rates - although these prices tended not to include breakfast which I consider an essential element to stays in hotels. Checking the helpful comments on the Laterooms website a frequent complaint was about the poor value for money some hotel breakfasts offered. Unfortunately there were no user comments about the Seville Confortel - watch that space.
The decision to book the Confortel in Seville was primarily drive by visiting one of its sister hotels during the summer at Fuengirola. The Confortel Fuengirola came included in a package deal and it was truely outstanding - putting many of the other Costa Del Sol hotels to shame. Stylish decor, seafront location, spacious balcony, superb staff and marvelous munchtastic breakfasts all made the stay thoroughly enjoyable. Expectations for the Seville hotel were high.
So what was wrong with the Confortel Seville?
- The room
was tiny and the lack of space exascerbated by the deep purple walls and curious “modern” panel above the bed. - A superb LG LCD TV sat handsomely on the desk - however all available channels had terrible reception - a ruse to encourage pay per view methinks.
- The bathroom (no bath) had been squeezed into a stud partitioned recess but had no extractor fan. The shower head was fixed and did a wonderful job of spraying half the floor. Dank, dingey and damp - had the stay been longer I would have set off some salad cress and brought in a mushroom kit.
- The offer of free internet connection was only actually available to those who brought their own wifi laptops to tap into the free hub along with them on their holiday.
- The foyer stank of poo!
It gets worse
A redeeming breakfast would surely smooth the wrinkles of discontent? Not in the Confortel Seville it didn’t. The tiny buffet area had a tall stand with a full coloured picture of a plate piled high with traditional cooked breakfast items - scrumptious. Imagine my surprise when mine arrived it was no more than two fried eggs on a bed of wet lettuce. No Bacon, no sausage, no beans, no mushrooms just 2 eggs with wet lettuce. My suggestion that someone pop out to the local Supermercardo “El Corte Inglis” and do a bit of shopping was ignored.
Eventually the waitress dutifully asked me to sigh for the meals…..30 euros for 2 meagre, shoody breakfasts - I circled the amount and added ??? in the hope it would be noted on check out.
Checking Out - Confortel Seville Style
Surely it is a “smart” policy to at least enquire if the stay was at least satisfactory - continual feedback is important for the service industry - were there any problems (yep) and also what did they do right is essential to help the business maintain and improve its service. The front desk was manned by a preening young man - clearly more bothered about the appearance of his over gelled hair. He continued to chat to a colleague whilst the bill was prepared, slid it towards me, retrieved it with payment all without even catching my eye.
Total bill for 2 nights stay and one so called breakfast 215 euros - confortel seville - blow your three stars - DONT GO THERE.
By the way, Seville was wonderful.

Excellent post Mr Muncher. I shall certainly be avoiding the Confortel Seville on my travels.
I’m sorry to hear aboput your dreadful holiday in Spain.
Fortunately when I went I had my laptop and made full use of the wifi and free hub.
The food was has nothing on a proper Cornish pasty though huh!
Carson - don’t get me wrong the holiday in Spain was fabulous but as always its a couple of little things that can marr the experience. The Confortel in Seville really did get my goat - and the foyer smelt like the goat had dropped one.
OLE
Just stumbled across your blog - Great Post - Bad Uncomfortable Hotel
We went to Barcelona last May, can’t remember the hotel name we stayed in, but it was advertised with a free mini bar, that got restocked each day.
Great, I thought, no bar bills… only thing was it was stocked with only one tiny beer bottle (about a mouth full) and another one that was alcohol free…. bummer.
Cheers for now,
John

The saying, if you dont have something nice to say, dont say anything at all, really doesnt apply when giving out useful hints and customer reviews to other people. its more of a personal thing. I think its important that your experience of the Confortel Seville is on public display - cats arses indeed
We had a hotel reserved through hotels.com in a 2 star hotel (Don Pedro) that I had spent some time checking out reviews for. We had received a confirmation about the booking.
At the last minute I received an email from hotels.com saying that the hotel couldn’t do the reservation. Luckily I wasn’t travelling at the time and received the email otherwise we would have just turned up. Having spent 25 minutes on the phone to the US they offered to transfer us to an alternate 3 star hotel that they claimed was better for no extra cost. We were attending the Madonna concert and availability was limited. I had booked my hotel weeks before.
Unfortunately it was the Confortel Seville - Hotel Puerta de Triana. What a disgraceful excuse for a hotel. I have stayed in several lovely hotels in Seville and many all over Spain.
Mutton dressed as lamb. It was more like a no star hostel with plastic trimmings. We had exactly the same experience as yourself. Except our tiny little box room was a nauseating orange and had a small window looking at a wall.
I complained and the staff insisted they couldn’t change it because it was in their system. They made no effort and didn’t seem to care. And I wasn’t going to try and bribe them. After all, this is Spain not Cuba.
In addition to the damp bathroom with fixed shower head we had a broken bathroom door handle, tv channels not working, Free mini bar with no booze (I’d prefer to pay), Free Internet wasn’t free and I brought my laptop, Free coffee was nonexistent and even though the waitress saw me in the restaurant she chose to ignore me.
By far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in, both in the modern world and the third world.
Fortunately Madonna was awesome.
Recently I had the misfortune to stay in the same hotel (Confortel Puerte de Triana) in Sevilla. It was, as you described, one of the worst “3 star hotels” I have ever stayed in. The room was expensive (€180.00) and small. Even worse was the noise at night as the windows had no sound proofing. I might as well have slept on the street! The shower was a liability; cold one minute and dangerously hot the next.
I would strongly advise anybody against staying in this hotel. There are far better alternatives in Sevilla. The hotel was the low point of an otherwise fantastic stay in Sevilla.
If I am on a travel, I make it sure that I get my money’s worth when staying at hotels.
If the service sucks like at this Seville hotel confortel or it’s not worth it, I will never come back nor promote the same hotel ever again. Great post!
wohh what an nice blog….Njoyed sum of the comments while reading..will surely visit Confortel Seville- thee 3 Star Hotel Right Naaaaa…..
